A beautiful new tapestry depicting the four seasons was unveiled by Hugh Tollemarche, High Sherriff of Gloucestershire recently at North Cotswolds hospital. Hugh Tollemarche with tapestry

Designed, stitched and presented to the hospital by the Stow-on-the-Wold countryside branch of the Embroiderers Guild, the tapestry took two years to complete.  The tapestry, titled “There is a Season”, illustrates all four seasons of the year with a tree in various stages of blossom, set in countryside. The image is surrounded by hexagons depicting thirty different plants known for their medicinal properties, including honeysuckle, elderberry, sunflower, echinacea, lavender and milk thistle.

David Glaisyer, chair of Moreton League of Friends, joined the High Sherriff in the unveiling; ‘The Embroiderers Guild have joined together to make something that would be a permanent marker to commemorate the opening of the new community hospital.  This tapestry is a beautiful addition to the hospital reception, and will be celebrated and remembered for years to come.’

Linda Edwards, matron of North Cotswolds hospital – “It is wonderful to have members of the Guild from Stow and the surrounding villages come together to create this tapestry for our hospital, as our hospital really is at the heart of our local community.”
